## 00: How to Use This Audit Checklist

Know exactly where you stand in search and AI answers

Run this as a structured discovery process, not a pass/fail test. Every site has a different mix of strengths and gaps. The goal is to find the gaps that are costing the most and fix those first.

Assign a named owner for each section before the audit begins. An audit without owners produces a report that nobody acts on. Accountability starts at section assignment.

Treat the GEO and SEO sections as one unified workflow. The technical and content fundamentals that earn organic rankings are the same fundamentals that earn AI citations. Optimizing for one without the other is leaving performance on the table.

Complete the full audit before prioritizing fixes. Section 11 exists for a reason. Issues look different once the complete picture is visible. A single critical finding can change the priority order of everything else.

- Audit sections: 11 · Foundation through action planning
- Checklist items: 88 · Interactive audit tasks with guidance notes
- AI platforms to monitor: 5 · ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, AI Overviews
- Checklist edition: 2026 · Unified SEO and GEO audit workflow

### Collaboration notes

This audit is a starting point, not a finished product. Every finding should be validated against the client's business context before being prioritized. A technically correct recommendation that ignores operational constraints will not get implemented. Silverback reviews technical findings, content gaps, entity signals, schema implementation, and AI citation data before finalizing the action plan. Client sign-off on priority tiers prevents misaligned sprint planning. The client team should flag business-critical pages, conversion paths, and brand narrative sensitivities before the audit findings are presented. Context the audit cannot see from the outside materially changes what gets prioritized. Development, content, and marketing teams should align on the fix sprint plan before work begins. Audit findings that reach only one team rarely produce the cross-functional improvements that move organic and AI visibility in parallel.

Section 01

## 01: Crawlability and Indexation

Audit Foundation

- **Audit robots.txt configuration** · Confirm the file is reachable, parses without errors, and does not block priority content. Verify AI crawlers including GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, and PerplexityBot are permitted if AI visibility is a goal. Blocking these crawlers eliminates real-time retrieval citation potential.
- **Validate XML sitemaps** · Confirm all sitemaps are submitted in GSC, return HTTP 200, and accurately reflect the current indexable URL set. Sitemaps should exclude redirected URLs, noindex pages, canonicalized duplicates, and non-canonical pagination variants.
- **Review crawl budget health** · Use GSC Crawl Stats and server log data to identify URLs consuming crawl budget with zero organic value: faceted parameters, legacy URLs, thin auto-generated pages. Wasted crawl budget on low-value URLs delays discovery of high-value content.
- **Audit canonical tags sitewide** · Every indexable page should carry one canonical pointing to the correct preferred URL with the right protocol and hostname. Flag pages that self-canonicalize incorrectly, canonicalize to staging URLs, or appear in sitemaps while being canonicalized away.
- **Check indexed page count against sitemap count** · Compare your known indexable URL total against GSC Index Coverage. A gap of more than 10% in either direction signals crawl waste, indexation leakage, or content that Google has evaluated and chosen to exclude.
- **Identify accidental noindex directives** · Crawl the production site and flag any pages carrying noindex that should be indexed. Sort findings by organic traffic and ranking data to prioritize removal. This is a frequent audit finding after CMS migrations and template changes.
- **Audit internal redirect chains and 404 errors** · Flag internal links pointing to redirect chains of three or more hops, or to 404 pages. Each redirect hop burns crawl budget and dilutes link equity. Update internal links to point directly to the final canonical destination.
- **Review hreflang implementation** · For multi-language or multi-region sites, confirm hreflang annotations are bidirectional, reference the correct absolute URLs, and use valid ISO language and region codes. Errors here cause international traffic to route to the wrong page variant.

Section 02

## 02: Technical Performance and Core Web Vitals

Audit Foundation

### Section note

Note on Tools: Use Google Search Console CrUX field data as your primary source for Core Web Vitals. Lab data from PageSpeed Insights is useful for diagnosis but does not reflect real-user experience the way field data does. Always segment CWV by page template, not site-level averages.

- **Measure Largest Contentful Paint by template** · Target LCP under 2.5 seconds using CrUX field data in GSC. A site-level LCP score masks underperforming templates. Segment by page type and investigate LCP element, server response time, and render-blocking resources for each template group.
- **Assess Interaction to Next Paint** · INP replaced FID as a Core Web Vital in 2024. Target under 200ms. Audit third-party scripts, heavy JavaScript execution, and long tasks blocking the main thread. An INP above 500ms in a competitive vertical is a meaningful ranking disadvantage.
- **Audit Cumulative Layout Shift** · Target CLS under 0.1. Common causes include images and embeds without explicit dimensions, late-loading web fonts, and dynamically injected content above the fold. Use Chrome DevTools Layout Instability panel to identify contributing elements.
- **Check Time to First Byte** · A TTFB above 800ms indicates server, CDN, or caching problems that compound downstream performance issues. Test from multiple geographic regions. Investigate hosting tier, CDN configuration, and database query performance for high-TTFB pages.
- **Evaluate JavaScript rendering completeness** · Confirm that primary content, internal navigation, schema markup, canonical tags, and CTAs are present in the Googlebot-rendered HTML. Use GSC URL Inspection and compare raw versus rendered source. Content visible only post-render may be partially or fully invisible to crawlers.
- **Review mobile usability across templates** · Run representative pages through Google Mobile-Friendly Test. Flag tap target violations, horizontal scroll, and viewport configuration errors. Mobile-first indexing means Google evaluates mobile rendering for all ranking decisions, regardless of where your traffic originates.
- **Audit render-blocking resources** · Identify CSS and JavaScript files delaying first paint. Defer non-critical scripts, preload LCP resources, and serve static assets from a CDN close to users. Third-party tag sprawl from GTM is the most common culprit on mid-size sites.
- **Review Core Web Vitals trend over time** · CWV performance can degrade silently after new feature releases, tag additions, or template changes. Set up GSC email alerts and review the CWV trend graph monthly. A six-month trend is more meaningful than a point-in-time snapshot.

Section 03

## 03: On-Page SEO and Content Quality

On-Site Audit

- **Audit title tags for uniqueness and relevance** · Every indexable page needs a unique, descriptive title tag under 60 characters. Identify duplicates, missing titles, truncated titles, and titles Google is actively rewriting in SERPs. When Google rewrites your title, it signals a mismatch between your tag and the page content.
- **Review meta descriptions for coverage and CTR impact** · Check uniqueness, length between 140 and 160 characters, and that each description presents a clear reason to click. Meta descriptions are not a ranking factor but they directly influence organic CTR, which feeds behavioral signals back into rankings.
- **Audit H1 usage and heading hierarchy** · Each page should have one H1 reflecting the primary topic. Confirm H2 through H4 tags create a logical, scannable structure. Pages with strong heading hierarchy are more likely to earn featured snippets and AI citation eligibility because structure makes extraction reliable.
- **Assess content depth, uniqueness, and search intent alignment** · Identify thin pages under 300 words, near-duplicate content across templates, and pages that fail to satisfy the search intent they rank for. Pages that rank but fail to convert or retain users send negative behavioral signals that gradually erode ranking stability.
- **Audit E-E-A-T signals across priority pages** · Check that author bios reference real credentials, that pages surface firsthand experience, that sources and statistics are cited and linked, and that trust signals including testimonials, certifications, and case data are present in crawlable HTML, not buried in JavaScript or images.
- **Review image optimization** · Confirm all images carry descriptive alt text, are served in WebP or AVIF format, use lazy loading for below-the-fold images, and are appropriately compressed. Large uncompressed images are among the most common LCP contributors found in content audits.
- **Identify orphaned pages with no internal links** · Pages with zero internal links are invisible to crawlers and carry no PageRank signal. Every indexable page should be reachable within three clicks from the homepage. Orphaned pages represent dead organic potential waiting to be connected.
- **Audit page content for freshness signals** · Pages competing in fast-moving categories need visible last-updated dates, current statistics, and current year references. Perplexity cited content published within the last 30 days at an 82% rate in 2026 analysis. Stale content loses both rankings and AI citation eligibility.

Section 04

## 04: Content Architecture and Topic Authority

On-Site Audit

- **Audit topic cluster coverage by category** · Map each primary service, product, or subject area and confirm a pillar page exists supported by cluster content covering key subtopics. Gaps in cluster coverage represent ranking and citation opportunities your competitors may already be capturing.
- **Evaluate pillar page depth and completeness** · Pillar pages should comprehensively define the topic, answer primary user questions, address common objections, and link to cluster content. A pillar page that reads like a landing page rather than an authority resource will consistently underperform against comprehensive competitor content.
- **Review internal linking architecture for equity flow** · Assess whether link equity flows from high-authority pages toward pages needing ranking support. Confirm cluster pages link back to their pillar and that related cluster pages cross-link where intent supports it. Siloed content architecture leaks link equity through orphaned high-authority pages.
- **Identify content gaps against competitor visibility** · Use GSC query data and third-party tools to find search queries where competitors rank but your site does not appear. Prioritize gaps in categories where you already hold topical authority, since adding cluster content in established topics has a faster return than starting from scratch.
- **Assess FAQ and question-based content coverage** · Confirm your most important pages include FAQ sections that directly answer the questions your audience asks search engines and AI platforms. FAQPage schema combined with clear question-and-answer structure is one of the most reliable Google AI Overview citation triggers in 2026.
- **Audit content for AI extraction quality** · For each target topic, identify whether a clear self-contained passage of 40 to 60 words exists that an AI system could lift and attribute to your site without losing meaning. If that passage does not exist, the page has an AI citation gap that content editing can fix without a full rewrite.
- **Review anchor text distribution in internal links** · Descriptive, keyword-relevant anchor text passes stronger topical signals than generic anchors such as "click here" or "read more." Audit internal link anchors across the site and replace vague labels on links pointing to priority pages.
- **Check content for statistics, data, and citable specifics** · Pages containing original research, cited third-party statistics, named figures, and specific data points earn AI citations at a measurably higher rate. Identify which priority pages can be enriched with supporting data without compromising readability.

Section 05

## 05: Structured Data and Schema Implementation

On-Site Audit

- **Audit Organization schema completeness** · Your Organization schema is the foundation of entity disambiguation for AI systems. Confirm it includes name, URL, logo, description, and sameAs links pointing to authoritative external profiles including LinkedIn, Crunchbase, and any applicable Wikipedia or Wikidata entries. Incomplete Organization schema leaves AI systems guessing about who you are.
- **Review Article and BlogPosting schema coverage** · Every article and blog post should carry Article or BlogPosting schema with author (linked to a Person schema), datePublished, dateModified, headline, and publisher populated correctly. Missing dateModified in particular causes AI retrieval systems to treat content as perpetually stale.
- **Audit FAQPage schema implementation** · Pages with FAQ sections should implement FAQPage schema for every question and answer pair. FAQPage schema correlates with measurable lift in Google AI Overview citation rates in 2026. Confirm questions match the H3 text exactly and answers are complete within the schema.
- **Validate all schema through Rich Results Test** · Run representative pages through Google Rich Results Test and Schema.org Markup Validator. A 2026 analysis of 5,000 sites found 78% of those with structured data had implementation errors. Flag broken JSON-LD, missing required fields, and mismatched entity types. Fix errors before adding new schema.
- **Confirm schema entity consistency across sources** · The entity name, description, and URLs in your schema must match exactly what appears in your llms.txt, ai.txt, Google Business Profile, and other brand-managed sources. Inconsistency across these sources fragments entity signals and causes AI systems to present conflicting information about your brand.
- **Review BreadcrumbList schema accuracy** · Breadcrumb schema should match the visible breadcrumbs on the page, use the correct URL hierarchy, and be present across all deep-content templates. Mismatches between visible breadcrumbs and schema are flagged as errors in GSC and reduce structured data confidence.
- **Check GSC Rich Results report for errors and warnings** · Review the Enhancements section in Google Search Console for schema errors and warnings. Prioritize warnings on high-traffic templates. Errors indicate structured data Google can see but cannot use. Warnings indicate data Google can use but with reduced confidence.
- **Audit Product and Review schema for accuracy** · For product and service pages, confirm Offer, AggregateRating, and Review properties reflect current pricing, availability, and rating data. Outdated schema creates trust issues for both Google crawlers and AI systems that use schema as a factual shortcut about your offerings.

Section 06

## 06: Entity Strength and Brand Signals

GEO & Entity Audit

- **Assess entity disambiguation in search results** · Search your brand name and evaluate whether Google returns a Knowledge Panel, whether the panel accurately describes what you do and who you serve, and whether the results match your intended brand narrative. No panel typically means entity establishment work is needed before GEO tactics will take hold.
- **Audit sameAs links for completeness and accuracy** · Confirm your Organization schema references the same external profile URLs that appear in your Wikidata entry, Crunchbase page, LinkedIn company profile, and relevant industry directories. Each consistent cross-reference reinforces entity identity for both AI training data and real-time retrieval systems.
- **Review brand mention velocity and source quality** · Use Brand24, Mention, or Ahrefs Alerts to track unlinked brand mentions across the web. Brand mentions correlate with AI citation probability at 0.664, nearly three times stronger than backlinks at 0.218, according to 2026 research. Low mention velocity is a GEO problem before it is an SEO problem.
- **Audit third-party review platform presence** · Confirm your brand is accurately listed and actively maintained on the review platforms most relevant to your category: Google Business Profile, G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, or equivalents. A 2026 Yext study found 86% of AI citations came from brand-managed sources, with business listings accounting for 42%.
- **Check co-citation patterns in your category** · Identify which brands and topics are consistently mentioned alongside yours across earned media, press coverage, and industry publications. Co-citation in the right semantic neighborhood strengthens category authority in AI model training data and positions your brand as a peer of recognized category leaders.
- **Review Google Knowledge Panel accuracy** · If a Knowledge Panel exists, verify the description, categories, social profiles, and images accurately represent your brand. Inaccurate panels create a GEO problem because AI systems that draw from the Knowledge Graph will repeat those inaccuracies in generated answers served to your potential customers.
- **Audit author entity development for content sites** · Named authors should have dedicated author pages with Person schema, links to external profiles such as LinkedIn and Google Scholar where applicable, and a visible publication history. Author entities are now a material E-E-A-T signal that affects both ranking and the probability of content being cited by AI systems.
- **Assess brand narrative consistency across all channels** · Review how your brand describes its products, differentiators, and category positioning across the website, press releases, social profiles, and third-party listings. Inconsistent messaging causes AI systems to generate conflicting descriptions of your brand, which erodes both trust and citation confidence.

Section 07

## 07: AI and GEO Visibility Readiness

GEO & Entity Audit

### Section note

Note on Scope: GEO and SEO are not separate disciplines. The technical and content fundamentals that earn organic rankings also determine AI citation eligibility. This section identifies the signals that specifically influence generative engine behavior in addition to traditional search ranking.

- **Confirm AI crawler access in robots.txt** · Verify that GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot, and Amazonbot are permitted if AI visibility is a business objective. Blocking AI crawlers is a legitimate choice for some brands, but it must be a deliberate decision with an understood consequence: elimination from real-time retrieval citation pools.
- **Audit llms.txt deployment and accuracy** · Check whether llms.txt exists at your domain root and accurately describes your site, its purpose, its core pages, and key answer resources. This file communicates directly with AI systems about where to focus attention and what your site is authoritative on. Update it after any significant content or navigation change.
- **Assess answer-style content coverage by topic** · For each primary service or topic area, confirm a page exists that directly and concisely answers the specific questions your audience types into AI platforms. Vague value-proposition copy does not earn citations. AI systems cite content that delivers a clear answer in the first two paragraphs.
- **Evaluate content confidence and specificity** · AI systems prefer sources that state facts definitively, cite supporting data, and structure claims in extractable sentences. Review priority pages for excessive hedging, buried conclusions, and jargon-heavy writing that requires significant prior knowledge to interpret. Clarity is a citation signal.
- **Audit comparison and use-case content coverage** · AI assistants answering evaluation and purchase-intent queries heavily cite comparison content, use-case pages, and alternatives analysis. Identify whether these content types exist for your core categories. If competitors appear in AI answers for these queries and you do not, content type is likely the gap, not domain authority.
- **Check trust signal placement in crawlable HTML** · Confirm that testimonials, case study results, awards, certifications, and partner logos are rendered in standard HTML. Content placed only in JavaScript components, iframes, or image-only formats is invisible to AI retrieval systems and contributes nothing to citation probability or E-E-A-T evaluation.
- **Review content opening structure for AI extraction** · Each page and section should open with a clear declarative sentence that states the main point, followed by supporting evidence. This is the content structure that generates the most AI citations across platforms. Bury the lead on a page and that page will not be cited even if it is the most authoritative source on the topic.
- **Audit outbound citation and linking practices** · Pages that link to authoritative external sources, cite specific statistics with source attribution, and demonstrate research earn citations at a higher rate in Google AI Overviews and Perplexity. Linking out is not a risk; it is a credibility signal. Audit priority pages for opportunities to add supporting citations.

Section 08

## 08: AI Platform Citation Monitoring

GEO & Entity Audit

- **Run a baseline citation audit across five platforms** · Query your 20 to 30 most important target topics in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Claude. Record which sources are cited, whether your brand appears, and where it sits in the generated answer. This baseline is your starting point for measuring GEO progress.
- **Document citation gaps by platform independently** · Only 11% of sources overlap between ChatGPT and Perplexity citations, according to 2026 analysis of 680 million citations. Audit each platform separately and build a gap map showing where you appear versus where competitors appear without you. Cross-platform citation strategy requires cross-platform measurement.
- **Track brand mention rate versus direct citation rate** · Distinguish between your brand name appearing in a generated answer and your content being cited as a source. Both matter, but they indicate different gaps. Brand name mentions without citations suggest entity recognition without content authority. Citations without brand clarity suggest the opposite.
- **Identify competitor citation advantages by query** · For queries where you rank organically on page one but do not appear in AI answers, identify which competitors are being cited and what their cited pages share. Look at content structure, specificity, schema implementation, and source credibility. These are your highest-priority content upgrade targets.
- **Monitor AI answer accuracy about your brand** · Verify that ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude describe your products, pricing, differentiators, and positioning accurately. Inaccurate AI answers are a brand risk with real conversion consequences. Correcting them requires improving brand-managed content sources, not disputing the AI platform directly.
- **Audit for hallucination triggers and content gaps** · Identify topics where AI systems generate confident but factually incorrect information about your brand or category. These gaps are typically caused by thin brand-managed content, outdated public information, or conflicting signals across sources. Each identified hallucination is a content brief waiting to be written.
- **Implement ongoing AI visibility monitoring** · Set up tracking through a tool such as Profound, Otterly, SE Ranking AI Overview tracker, or a structured manual query log to measure citation rates over time. AI visibility without measurement is invisible. Establish a baseline this week so future changes have something to compare against.
- **Review AI referral traffic in GA4** · Confirm GA4 is capturing referral traffic from ChatGPT.com, Perplexity.ai, Gemini, and Claude.ai under source or referral dimensions. As AI platforms increase traffic referral behavior, this segment will become a reportable channel. Segment it from organic to measure AI-driven conversions independently.

Section 09

## 09: Off-Page Authority and Backlink Profile

Authority & Reporting

- **Audit backlink profile quality and relevance** · Pull the full link profile from Ahrefs, Semrush, or Majestic and assess domain authority distribution, topical relevance, and anchor text variety. A healthy profile has a natural mix of branded, naked URL, and topic-relevant anchors from editorially independent referring domains. Manufactured link patterns remain a manual action risk.
- **Identify and disavow toxic links** · Flag links from spam domains, private blog networks, and manipulative link schemes using your tool's spam score filter. Build a disavow file for clear cases and submit or update in Google Search Console. Do not disavow aggressively; only act on links that show clear patterns of manipulation.
- **Analyze link velocity and earned link rate** · Review whether your site is earning new referring domains at a consistent rate. A stagnant link profile in a competitive category is losing relative ground as competitors continue to build. Identify the content types and topics that earned links organically and produce more content that follows that pattern.
- **Audit competitor backlink gaps** · Identify referring domains linking to two or more direct competitors that do not link to your site. These represent your highest-quality outreach targets because editorial interest in your category is already demonstrated. A competitor gap analysis is more efficient than cold link prospecting.
- **Review anchor text distribution for over-optimization** · Flag over-optimized exact-match anchor patterns that indicate link manipulation. In 2026, Google's systems identify unnatural anchor patterns at scale. A natural profile has branded anchors as the plurality, with generic and navigational anchors making up most of the remainder.
- **Identify unlinked brand mention opportunities** · Use Ahrefs Content Explorer or a monitoring tool to find editorial mentions of your brand name that lack a hyperlink. These are your highest-conversion link outreach targets because the publication already recognizes your brand and has written about it. A simple, polite request converts these at a far higher rate than cold outreach.
- **Evaluate digital PR coverage quality and recency** · Assess the publications that have covered your brand in the past 12 months. Coverage in high-authority editorial publications carries more weight as a GEO signal than coverage in press release syndication networks. Editorial mentions in category-relevant publications strengthen the same entity signals that AI systems use to determine citation confidence.
- **Assess local citation consistency for location-based businesses** · For businesses serving geographic markets, audit NAP consistency across Google Business Profile, Yelp, Apple Maps, Bing Places, and industry-specific directories. Inconsistent name, address, and phone data across citations confuses both local search algorithms and AI systems that aggregate business information from these sources.

Section 10

## 10: Analytics, Tracking, and Conversion Baseline

Authority & Reporting

- **Audit GA4 event tracking completeness** · Confirm that all meaningful user actions are tracked as key events in GA4: form submissions, phone number clicks, demo requests, file downloads, live chat starts, video plays, and scroll depth on priority pages. An analytics setup that does not track conversions cannot support audit-to-action reporting.
- **Review GTM container health** · Audit the GTM container for redundant tags, outdated tags pointing to deprecated endpoints, and tags firing on incorrect triggers. GTM bloat is a common LCP and INP contributor. A container audit often resolves performance issues that page speed tools cannot trace to a single cause.
- **Validate GSC property configuration** · Confirm the correct domain property is verified and active in Google Search Console, that the XML sitemap is submitted and returning no errors, and that any manual action messages are addressed. GSC is the primary source for indexation data, crawl stats, and schema validation.
- **Set up GA4 organic channel group segmentation** · Confirm that organic search, direct, referral, and AI referral traffic are cleanly separated in GA4. AI platform referral traffic from ChatGPT.com, Perplexity.ai, and similar sources should be identifiable as a distinct segment so AI-driven conversions can be attributed and reported independently.
- **Document baseline organic performance metrics** · Capture current organic sessions, users, engaged sessions, key event counts, conversion rate by landing page, and top-performing queries from GSC. This baseline is the measurement anchor for every recommendation in this audit. Without it, reported improvements are estimates.
- **Verify conversion tracking accuracy end to end** · Submit test form entries, trigger test phone click events, and verify that conversions appear correctly in GA4 and in any connected CRM or ad platform. Broken conversion tracking is the most common reason audit recommendations cannot be measured. Fix tracking before making content or technical changes.
- **Review paid media conversion alignment** · Confirm that Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, LinkedIn, and Meta conversion actions are pulling from the same GA4 key events or independently verified pixel fires. Misaligned conversion data corrupts bidding algorithms and produces ad performance reports that conflict with GA4 data.
- **Assess reporting cadence and dashboard configuration** · Confirm that a reporting dashboard exists that surfaces organic performance, AI citation trends, conversion volume, and Core Web Vitals changes in a format the client team can review without analyst support. Good reporting infrastructure makes audit findings durable rather than episodic.

Section 11

## 11: Priority Issue Scoring and Action Planning

Authority & Reporting

- **Classify every finding by severity and effort** · Every audit finding should be categorized as Critical, High, Medium, or Low severity and as Low, Medium, or High implementation effort. Issues that are high severity and low effort are the first items on the fix list, regardless of how interesting the other findings are.
- **Identify quick wins for immediate implementation** · Separate issues that can be resolved within one to two weeks from issues that require development sprints, content production, or strategic decisions. Presenting quick wins alongside complex projects helps teams build momentum and demonstrate ROI while long-term work proceeds.
- **Build a content gap brief from audit findings** · Convert content architecture gaps, AI citation gaps, and comparison content gaps into a prioritized content brief. Include target queries, competitor examples, recommended word count, required schema, and internal linking recommendations for each piece. A content gap without a brief rarely gets addressed.
- **Assign schema implementation priorities** · Rank schema fixes and additions by potential impact: Organization and Article schema errors first, FAQPage additions on high-traffic content pages second, and Product and Review schema for transactional templates third. Batch schema work by template type for efficient development deployment.
- **Create a technical fix sprint plan** · Group technical findings into sprint-sized batches based on development effort. Critical crawlability and indexation issues belong in sprint one. Core Web Vitals improvements belong in sprint two. JavaScript rendering and advanced schema work belong in sprint three or later, depending on team capacity.
- **Draft an entity and brand signal improvement plan** · Document the specific actions needed to strengthen entity disambiguation: sameAs link additions, Wikidata entry creation or update, author entity page development, PR campaign targets, and review platform optimization. Entity work compounds over time; the earlier it starts, the more it returns before the next audit cycle.
- **Define AI citation monitoring checkpoints** · Establish a monthly citation audit schedule across the five primary AI platforms. Define which 20 to 30 queries will be checked, who is responsible for running the audit, and what threshold of change triggers a content response. Routine monitoring transforms GEO from a one-time project into an ongoing competitive practice.
- **Set a re-audit timeline and success criteria** · Define the metrics that will indicate audit recommendations have been successfully implemented: indexed page improvement, Core Web Vitals field data improvements by template, AI citation rate increase by platform, and organic conversion rate changes. Set a 90-day check-in and a full re-audit at six months.
